Chandlers achieve 2nd place at Pavestone Rally as event raises over £150k for charity
We are delighted to announce that our Pavestone Rally team achieved 2nd place at the event which took place last week. In total, over £150,000 has been raised for The Rainy Day Trust and Teenage Cancer Trust at this fun-filled rally which covered a number of countries across Europe.
Trevor Mudd, our Pavestone Rally team leader and one of our Directors at Chandlers, gives us a rundown on how the team got on at the event:
"First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that sponsored us on the Pavestone Rally. We had to change our Team line up a few days before the start with Sean Sinclair stepping in to repeat his "Supersub" performance in the BMF Mastermerchant competition but that didn't stop us from achieving another great result.
Last year Chandlers came first with the BMF/First Event team coming second. In the interests of fairness, we thought it only fair to swap positions this year, allowing the BMF/First Event team to pip us to the post with newcomers, Team Cembrit coming in an equally close third. Our car transformed itself from a M*A*S*H helicopter on Day 1, to the Wayne's World Mirthmobile on Day 2, Ragnar and Rollo's Viking Ship on Day 3 before becoming a hybrid Viking Krusty Burger delivery ship car thing on Day 4 (photo below).
We are very grateful to Team Cembrit (central photo below) for help with the overnight transformations and we were very happy to be nominated second best car, second only to the awesome, six wheeled Team Cembrit Batmobile."
The Rainy Day Trust benefited from the 2016 Vado Rally to the tune of an amazing £64,000. This year they shared the proceeds with the Teenage Cancer Trust but their half was still more than the whole of the amount raised last year. So far the total raised comes to just over a quite breath taking £150,000. Yes, that's One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Pounds raised by a hundred odd people (and, in some cases, very odd indeed) driving around Europe for four days in beaten up old cars.
Our team's own fundraising target was a more modest £1,500 and, if you exclude Gift Aid, we are still £115 short so if anyone wants to recognise our achievement with a small donation to support two excellent causes then we will be very grateful, just click here to donate online.
Our Pavestone Rally team also consisted of Bella Brick, who enthusiastically immersed herself in each theme of the rally. Bella is our lucky mascot and she spends most of her time in our Marketing office in Ringmer. Below, you can see Bella in her Wayne's World outfit!
