The recent reforms in Apprenticeship training now provide more opportunity for people to explore this route when considering their employment options.
Halesowen Assistant Branch Manager - Jack Duroe, is an excellent example of how apprenticeship training can provide a solid stepping stone towards a management career.
Jack joined the Halesowen Branch in 2011 at the age of 17. He spent his first two years of employment completing his apprenticeship training and working in a variety of roles at the branch before taking up the role of Internal Sales Co-ordinator in 2013. From there, Jack went on to enhance his knowledge of the industry through hands on experience and by attending a variety of training courses delivered by the Builders Merchant Federation.
In June 2017 Jack was promoted to the role of Assistant Branch Manager and now helps to lead a branch with eight staff and a turnover of £2.5 million.
Richard Skinner, Commercial Director, said: "The builder's merchant industry is one that few people consider when making their career choices yet there are so many different roles and positions available. They enable the apprentice to experience every aspect of the business whilst gaining a qualification at the same time. With Jack now employed as a full-time Assistant Branch Manager, I hope this shows that with the right training and the right commitment, apprenticeships can be a valuable tool in carving out a career."
