The Chandlers Cup comes out of retirement
This year Lewes FC and Ringmer FC are resurrecting their traditional pre-season friendly and will be battling it out to win The Chandlers Cup on Tuesday 6th August at The Caburn, the home of Ringmer FC.
After the management of both clubs changed in 2004, the annual fixture died out, but this year it is back and helping to raise money for the Chandlers £50k Challenge charity appeal.
The appeal sees us aiming to raise £50,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in honour of Chandlers' employee Rob Sadler, a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer himself. Rob will be having a double celebration during 2013, marking not only 30 years of Chandlers' employment, but more significantly his 50th birthday; those with Cystic Fibrosis are not expected to live beyond their 30s.
Admission will cost £6 for adults and £3 for children and supporters will also be able to purchase raffle tickets during the first half for the chance to win an England football shirt and a 104 piece bit power tool accessory, as well as much more. All proceeds will be donated to the Chandlers £50k Challenge.
The winning team will be presented with The Chandlers Cup, which has resided with Ringmer since the 2004 fixture, and a £50 cheque courtesy of Chandlers.
Tim Parsons, Branch Manager at our Lewes branch, who has helped to organize the match and has previously played for both teams, commented, "I know from experience that The Chandlers Cup was always a fixture that was fun to play in. I'm delighted that it has been resurrected for this year and that both teams are happy for the match to help raise money for our fundraising campaign. I hope the local community comes out to the support both teams as well as the Chandlers £50k Challenge."
The Chandlers Cup will take place between Ringmer FC and Lewes FC on Tuesday 6th August at The Caburn, Anchor Field, Ringmer, BN8 5QN. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
