Lewes Bonfire Societies Charity Cup Day
Once again Lewes Football Club is throwing open its doors to the Dripping Pan football ground for the annual inter-Bonfire Society football tournament, which this year will be in aid of our Chandlers £50k Challenge: The Rob Sadler Cystic Fibrosis Appeal.
The event is in its fourth year and will be held on Sunday 11 May. Hugely popular in Lewes, it promises once again to be a fun, family day out for the town's Bonfire Society members and anyone else who just wants to come and watch. It's an opportunity for bonfire societies members to mix, promote themselves and play some competitive football! Entry to the tournament for spectators is free as always.
We are pleased to have chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as this year's charity in honour of Emma Roberts, a 12-year old top Lewes FC fan and CF sufferer. Lewes Ladies football players will be in attendance on the day to make a collection from spectators and players alike, and we will be adding the money collected to the Chandlers £50K Challenge to help them meet their target.
Rob Sadler commented: "I would like to thank everyone involved with the Lewes Bonfire Societies' Cup Day for supporting the Chandlers £50k Challenge, it is very much appreciated.
"We have so far raised £28,000, which we are delighted about, and it is the support from local communities like this that will help us get even closer to our target. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust does fantastic work and I know that every penny raised will help them to provide the great service that has supported me over the years."
This is a 7-a-side tournament that will feature teams from all seven Bonfire Societies of Lewes (Waterloo, South Street, Southover, Cliffe, Commercial Square, Nevill Juvenile and Borough) plus Newick Bonfire Society. The doors open at 11 am and the first two matches will kick off simultaneously at noon. The final is planned for 6pm.
The Rook Inn bar will be open during the whole event and hot and cold food will be available.
