I wanted to firstly introduce myself as the new Managing Director of Chandlers Building Supplies and the larger family of independent builders’ merchants, which includes Fairalls and Parker Building Supplies.

Our business is committed not only to selling you quality products (which we do like to do), but also to help you to run your business.

In that spirit, we wanted you to know that some suppliers are facing production difficulties at the moment, which is causing industrywide stock shortages. As the largest independent merchant group in the South East, we are in a better position than most on stock. However, we will be affected by these shortages to some extent.

We are, of course, doing our absolute best to seek a variety of alternative supply routes. Still we thought it would help you plan your business if we shared with you where the challenges currently are on key lines.

Our suppliers have let us know of longer than normal lead times on the following:

  • Cement & Post Fix are both subject to delays & restricted allocations from all our suppliers so please check with your local branch for the latest supply status
  • Plaster is also being restricted in supply, so again check with us the for the latest picture (although the good news is that supplies of plasterboard have improved massively.)
  • Paving – sandstone is in short supply and we are seeing significant increases in prices from our suppliers, but we have many alternatives in stock and ready to go, which we would be happy to discuss with you.
  • Timber boards – lead times are longer than usual on several timber products such as OSB and MDF, so our stock situation may fluctuate.
  • Carcassing Timber– again this is on allocation, but we are working hard with our supply chain to keep stock in branch.
  • Marley Roof Tiles – long lead times so once our current stocks are used up, we may have to wait for more.

Please help us by planning ahead; give us a call if there is anything you know you are going to need, and we will do our best to source it from across our group of merchants.

Branches

Our branches, including most of our trade counters are all open for prebooked collections and deliveries. All our branches apart from Chertsey have resumed Saturday trading too.  For details on how to book a collection click here.

We are really confident we have good steps in place to keep us all safe.

We have found new ways to work to ensure everyone’s safety. As you know we all need to continue to be vigilant and carry out the all-important social distancing.  In certain situations, this can be really tricky, so we may need to remind you to take care. There is no doubt it takes a bit of getting used to but by now we all know that good preventative measures such as distancing and hand washing continue to be key.

At every branch we have looked at the way we serve you and made it safe to do so. At a couple of branches, we are still awaiting equipment to enable them to open the counter safely.

Our safety measures include:

  • Operating with social distancing at all times

  • Creating dedicated parking bays for collections

  • Erecting protective clear screens at our counters

  • Moderating the number of people in each of our shops

  • Putting in place clear 2m queue markers

  • Providing hand sanitiser gel both outside and inside our shops to encourage good hygiene levels

  • Increasing our regular cleaning regimes

  • Enabling our drivers to make contactless deliveries

We want to make the experience of shopping with us a happy and efficient one. Nevertheless, we are all having to learn to behave a little bit differently so if you don’t get a friendly handshake or manly hug, rest assured we do still love you!  Good news is there’s still a place for friendly banter …. as long as you’re 2m away!
